Kala Ghoda Arts Festival–Mumbai’s largest multicultural arts festival

Deepak Kumar

The Kala Ghoda Festival (KGAF) is a celebration of arts and culture. It has grown from a small local event to one that is celebrated globally, now attracting close to 10 million people to come together to experience exhibitions by artists from all over India, as well as performances and workshops of visual arts, dance, theatre, and music.
The Kala Ghoda Arts Festival is a free festival that aims to promote arts and culture in Mumbai.

The event also focuses on heritage walks around the city and other events with discussions on politics through art.

The Kala Ghoda Arts Festival started in 1999, and since then it has become the largest multicultural festival in Mumbai. This world-class arts festival is one of the most popular events in India, attracting visitors and participants from other parts of the country, and even from other parts of the world. The Festival is organized by the Kala Ghoda Association (a non-profit organization that states its objectives as "physically upgrading the Kala Ghoda sub-precinct and making it the Art District of Mumbai") and curated by teams handling each of the 12 sections of the festival.
The Festival features several venues, including the National Gallery of Modern Art, the David Sassoon Library, The Museum Mumbai, and the Cross Maidan. For children, there will be a dedicated area for them at Kala Ghoda where different events are held for kids as well as adults!
The success of the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival has, arguably, encouraged the setting up of several other arts and cultural festivals at that time of the year, when the weather in Mumbai is cool and the sun sets early.

(Mumbai's iconic Kala Ghoda neighborhood will soon be buzzing with music and dance. The Kala Ghoda Arts Festival (KGAF) is back and will run from 4-12 February, to celebrate cinema, food, literature, visual art, culture, and more. After two years of pandemic restrictions, this event provides a welcome dose of culture for residents and visitors alike.)
